Description
The D Activator-X Neck (DP221) borrows the aggressive look of the legendary X2N but takes a smarter approach to output. Rather than stacking on more power, DiMarzio tuned this ceramic humbucker’s coils to specific frequencies, giving you a wide-open sound that stays articulate at full volume and cleans up surprisingly well when you roll back the knob – even running into high-gain metal amps.
Voiced for a focused attack centered in the upper mids, the Neck model runs at lower output and weaker magnetic pull than the Bridge version by design. Strings vibrate more intensely over the neck pickup to begin with, so this lower output actually balances the pair perfectly rather than leaving you with a lopsided set. That lighter magnetic field also means less string pull, so sustain and intonation stay solid.
Built with universal spacing, it drops into standard or F-spaced routes without fuss, and while it’s engineered to pair with the D Activator-X Bridge, it holds its own in either position. Split or parallel wiring opens up clean, bright tones too, so this isn’t a one-trick heavy-music pickup even though that’s where it was born.
