This set pairs two very different personalities from DiMarzio’s catalog into one cohesive tonal package. The DP103BK 36th Anniversary PAF Neck was built by reverse-engineering Larry DiMarzio’s own 1959 Les Paul, chasing that oddly weak-but-focused magnetic field vintage PAFs are known for. A softer pull lets strings ring out longer while keeping attack articulate rather than washed out, thanks to precisely layered 42-gauge wire wound on computer-controlled equipment and dipped to kill squeal. It’s equally happy at the neck or bridge, staying smooth without turning muddy.
On the other end, the DP160FBK Norton Bridge splits the difference between FRED’s nasty harmonic bite and The Tone Zone’s midrange muscle, using the same dual-resonance design as both. It’s hotter and bigger-sounding than a vintage-style bridge pickup without tipping into distortion-humbucker territory, which is why DiMarzio calls it one of their most versatile bridge options. This version is F-spaced for correct pole alignment on guitars with wider bridge string spacing.
