Description
Born out of two years of back-and-forth with Steve Vai on his Ibanez JEMs, the Evolution Neck humbucker was built for players who need power without mush. This isn’t a vintage-voiced neck pickup content to sit quietly under a lead line — it’s fat, punchy, and loud, with enough push to keep up with an aggressive bridge pickup rather than fading into the background.
Under the hood, DiMarzio’s patented dual-resonance design pulls more harmonic overtones out of the coils than a standard humbucker, so single notes and chords alike come through with extra texture and bite. Paired with the ceramic magnet, output stays high and the attack stays tight — this is a pickup that rewards a hot amp and a heavy hand, not the faint of heart.
Live, the Evolution Neck was designed to cut through a loud stage without losing definition. In the studio, that same presence means it slices through dense mixes instead of getting buried, making it just as useful behind a microphone as behind a Marshall.
- Ceramic magnet for high output and tight low end
- 4-conductor wiring for coil-tap and phase flexibility
- DC resistance: 13.04 Kohm
- Dual-resonance design for enhanced harmonic overtones
- Fits nearly all solid-body guitars and most semi-hollows
- Introduced in 1993
Finished in white to match or contrast with your build, this is the neck pickup half of the Evolution set Steve Vai still relies on for high-gain lead tone that stays articulate at volume.
