Description
Born out of a two-year collaboration with Steve Vai for his Ibanez JEMs, the Evolution bridge pickup was engineered for players who need their bridge tone to hit harder and cut cleaner than their neck pickup. This isn’t a set-and-forget humbucker for background rhythm work — it’s voiced tight, aggressive, and noticeably louder, with a ceramic magnet driving the output up front and center.
Under the hood, DiMarzio’s dual-resonance circuitry pulls more harmonic complexity out of the string signal than a standard humbucker design, giving you a pickup that stays articulate even when you’re pushing a cranked amp into breakup. It’s not a diplomatic-sounding pickup, and it’s not really aimed at players still finding their footing — feed it some real gain and real technique, and it responds with the kind of bite that made it a go-to for high-output lead work.
While it was built with the stage in mind, the same qualities that make it project in a live mix — presence, definition, and refusal to get muddy — also make it a strong choice in the studio, where it can slice through dense arrangements without disappearing.
This F-spaced version is set up for guitars with floating/Floyd Rose-style bridges, finished in white.
