Description
Plenty of single-coils can do clean and bright — the trick is keeping the top end sweet once you climb past the 12th fret, and that’s exactly the problem DiMarzio set out to solve with the True Velvet. Rather than just cranking brightness, the coil is tuned to a frequency window that stays airy without drifting into thin or glassy territory, so lead lines up the neck keep their character instead of turning brittle.
A carefully calculated magnet stagger works alongside that coil voicing to even out string-to-string balance, which pays off most when you’re strumming full chords — every note comes through clearly instead of one or two strings jumping out ahead of the rest.
This is the Middle position version of the True Velvet, sharing the same core specs as its Neck sibling but wired with reverse polarity. That gives you proper hum-cancelling when paired with the neck or bridge pickup in switch positions 2 and 4 — quiet single-coil tone without sacrificing that open, vintage feel.
Build-wise, the True Velvet Middle sticks to traditional methods: hand-ground magnets and vintage-style cloth-covered wire, the kind of old-school touches that contribute to its warm, authentic voice.
