Description
Don’t let the size fool you. The Fast Track 2 wears single-coil clothing but hits like a full-on humbucker, delivering about three times the output of a typical Strat pickup along with a thick midrange and bass punch that tips straight into rich, saturated overdrive territory. Tonally it lands very close to DiMarzio’s Super 3, just reshaped to drop into a standard Strat-sized bridge slot without any routing.
Because it’s built for power, pairing matters. In the neck, reach for something equally hot like the Pro Track, Air Norton S, BC-1, or The Chopper to keep the guitar balanced end to end. For the middle position, DiMarzio points toward brighter options such as The Cruiser or Fast Track 1, which helps offset the Fast Track 2’s weight in the bridge. If you’d rather mix things up with Area or Virtual Vintage pickups, that works too – just be ready for a noticeable jump in output when you switch to the bridge. A 500K volume pot is the recommended pairing here, as it lets a bit more top end breathe through a pickup that otherwise leans dark and aggressive.
Finished in white to match classic Strat pickguards and covers, the Fast Track 2 has been part of DiMarzio’s lineup since 1991.
