Description
The Cruiser is DiMarzio’s answer for Strat owners who love single-coil sparkle but are done fighting hum, string dropout, and magnet pull that chokes sustain. Built with side-by-side stacked coils instead of a traditional single-coil layout, it cancels 60-cycle noise entirely while keeping the harmonic character players expect from a real single-coil.
Plug it in and the top three strings (E, B, G) land remarkably close to true single-coil territory, while the wound strings (D, A, low E) pick up extra fatness and chunk. The result is a spread-out, open-chord voice with a vocal midrange and hotter output than a standard single-coil. Because The Cruiser’s total magnet pull runs about 40% lower than a conventional single-coil, you can set it much closer to the strings for added power without the pitch-warping pull that usually comes with it.
Its added output and thicker low end make it a natural bridge partner for medium-output humbuckers elsewhere in the guitar, and it holds its tonal identity through high-gain amps and pedal chains rather than getting swallowed up.
- Recommended for all positions — use in the bridge with lower-output pickups in neck/middle, or in neck/middle paired with a hotter bridge humbucker
