The DiMarzio Tone Zone P-90 (DP210) takes the aggressive, high-output character of the classic Tone Zone humbucker and squeezes it into a soapbar-style housing. Under that plastic cover sits a humbucking design, so you get P-90 attitude without the 60-cycle hum that plagues single-coil soapbars.
Soapbar covers present a couple of engineering challenges: they keep the coils farther from the strings than a standard humbucker cover would, and their shape gives the pickup a narrower window onto the string vibration. DiMarzio compensates on both fronts by boosting output slightly and widening the magnetic field around the polepieces, so the pickup still reads a full swath of the string and delivers the same size and punch as the original Tone Zone.
This one is voiced and built specifically for the bridge position, where you want cutting midrange and enough output to push a tube amp into overdrive without losing note definition. It comes wired with 4-conductor cabling, giving you the flexibility to wire it as a standard series humbucker, split one coil for a leaner single-coil-ish voice, or run the coils in parallel for a quieter, glassier tone.
