Description
The Tone Zone P-90 takes everything players love about the original Tone Zone humbucker and squeezes it into a soapbar-style housing — without watering down the output. That’s trickier than it sounds: soapbar covers keep the pickup a bit farther from the strings than a standard humbucker allows, and P-90-style construction naturally gives the coils a narrower magnetic view of the strings. DiMarzio compensated on both fronts, dialing up the power slightly and widening the magnetic field around the coils so this pickup delivers the same aggressive, high-output character the Tone Zone name is known for.
It’s voiced and built specifically for the bridge position, where you want cutting midrange and a hot signal that can drive an amp into saturation without getting muddy or brittle. Under the creme cover you get 4-conductor wiring, so you’re not locked into a single sound — split it for a leaner, single-coil-flavored bite, or wire it in series/parallel to reshape the humbucking output to taste.
