Description
Built to Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci’s exacting specs for his Music Man JP16, the Sonic Ecstasy Bridge (DP270F) is a ceramic humbucker engineered for heavy, modern tones that don’t sacrifice clarity along the way. Petrucci wanted a pickup that could handle both crushing rhythm work and blistering leads without turning to mush, and the DP270F delivers exactly that.
The voicing leans into mids and lows for a broad, powerful character, but the top end stays smooth and musical rather than harsh or brittle. Petrucci himself describes the bridge model as bringing out punch and girth from the guitar while keeping the low end tight and articulate — the kind of thick sound that usually costs you definition, except here it doesn’t.
This is a serious high-output pickup at 420mV with 15.3 Kohm DC resistance, wired with 4-conductor cabling so you’ve got full flexibility for coil-splitting and other wiring tricks. The ceramic magnet reinforces that dense, aggressive foundation Petrucci relies on for his heavier passages.
Important spacing note: the Sonic Ecstasy Bridge is F-spaced only, so check your bridge pole-piece spacing before ordering.
