Description
P90s earn their cult following honestly: that snarling midrange, the creamy note-to-note breakup, the way harmonics bloom when you dig in. What they’ve never earned is a pass on hum. Every vintage-style single coil hisses and buzzes the moment you add gain or stand near a dimmer switch, and until now that’s just been the tax you pay for the tone.
DiMarzio’s Fantom P90 rewrites that deal. Instead of the usual single-coil layout, it packs four coils into a patent-pending design that cancels hum electronically while keeping the P90 voice intact — same snap, same growl, same vintage character, just without the noise floor creeping up behind it. Crank the gain, stack it with a fuzz, stand wherever you want on stage: it stays quiet.
This version is built into a genuine Dog Ear housing, so it drops straight into Dog Ear-routed guitars and keeps the classic Fifties look intact. It’s wound with a Neo (neodymium) magnet and comes with standard 2-conductor wiring, so installation is as simple as any other P90 swap — no push-pull switches or coil-split wiring required. DC resistance measures 13.77 kOhm, giving it plenty of output to sit comfortably in any pickup position.
