Description
The Area ’61 is the result of DiMarzio spending over a decade chasing a very specific sound: the steely-but-woody voice found in the best single-coils from the early 1960s. Rather than just cloning a vintage pickup and inheriting its 60-cycle hum, DiMarzio re-engineered the formula to cancel hum outright while keeping the magnetic pull light enough that your strings vibrate freely and your sustain stays natural.
Loaded with an Alnico 2 magnet, the Area ’61 leans into that softer, rounder vintage magnetic character rather than the punchier bite of Alnico 5. It’s a versatile voice that holds up in the neck, middle, and bridge positions alike, so you’re not stuck compromising tone depending on where it sits in your pickguard.
Want to build a full vintage-flavored set? Pair the Area ’61 in the bridge with a couple of Area 58 pickups in the neck and middle, and you get a spread that covers everything from twangy Nashville sparkle to fatter Texas roadhouse grind, all in one guitar.
