Description
Born out of two years of development with Steve Vai fine-tuning his Ibanez JEMs, the Evolution bridge humbucker isn’t trying to be your vintage-voiced, blues-friendly pickup. It’s tight, it’s aggressive, and it’s noticeably louder than its neck-position counterpart — engineered for players who dig in hard and expect the pickup to keep up.
Under the hood, DiMarzio’s dual-resonance design pulls out more harmonic content than a standard humbucker layout, so single notes and chords alike carry extra sizzle and complexity. Pair that with a ceramic magnet and you get punch and clarity that stays articulate even under heavy gain — this isn’t a pickup that mushes out when you push your amp into the red.
The Evolution was built with the stage in mind first, but don’t mistake it for a one-trick live pickup. That same presence and note definition translates well in the studio too, cutting through dense, layered mixes instead of getting buried. If you’ve got the technique and the amp to back it up, this pickup rewards aggression — it’s not really built for restraint.
