Description
Born from two years of chasing the exact sound Steve Vai demanded for his Ibanez JEMs, the Evolution Bridge humbucker isn’t interested in being tasteful. It’s built for players who want their leads to slice through a wall of gain and land every note with authority. This F-spaced version is voiced specifically for bridge duty—louder and more aggressive than its neck counterpart, with a low end that stays tight instead of turning to mud under high-gain distortion.
What sets it apart is DiMarzio’s patented dual-resonance design, which pulls more harmonic overtones out of the string than a standard humbucker. That translates to highs with real presence and lows that punch instead of flabbing out, so single-note runs and pinch harmonics jump forward even in a dense mix. Live or in the studio, this pickup was engineered to be heard, not buried.
While it was built around Vai’s Ibanez platform, the Evolution Bridge also works surprisingly well dropped into Gibson Les Pauls and other set-neck guitars, adding punch and definition that these guitars don’t always have stock—plus an easy, harmonic-rich feedback response for players who want to lean into it.
Fair warning: this isn’t a polite, all-purpose pickup. It rewards players with technique and an amp that can keep up.
