Description
Born from two years of chasing the exact snarl Steve Vai wanted out of his Ibanez JEMs, the Evolution set pairs a fat, punchy neck pickup (DP158FW) with a tighter, louder bridge pickup (DP159FW). Both are F-spaced for guitars with tighter string spacing at the bridge and finished in clean white to match a wide range of builds.
What sets Evolution apart is DiMarzio’s dual-resonance design, which pulls out more harmonic overtones than a standard humbucker. The result isn’t a polite, all-purpose tone — it’s an aggressive, high-headroom voice built for players who dig in hard and run a hot amp. Push it and it responds; recorded through a dense mix, that extra definition means it cuts rather than disappears.
- Evolution Neck (DP158FW): 4-conductor wiring, ceramic magnet, 294mV output, 13.04 kOhm DC resistance — fat, punchy, loud
- Evolution Bridge (DP159FW): 4-conductor wiring, ceramic magnet, 404mV output, 13.84 kOhm DC resistance — tighter, more aggressive, louder than the neck
This set was designed with the stage in mind, but the same presence and clarity that makes it stand out live carries straight into the studio. Included with this bundle: a free set of D’Addario EXL116 Medium Top/Heavy Bottom electric guitar strings, so you’re ready to string up and dial in the new tone right away.
Note: these are voiced for experienced players who want an amp that can keep up — if you’re after something smooth and forgiving, look elsewhere in the DiMarzio line.
