Description
Born from two years of chasing the exact tone Steve Vai wanted out of his Ibanez JEMs, the Evolution set doesn’t do polite. This F-spaced pair pairs a fat, punchy, loud neck pickup (DP158FW) with a tighter, more aggressive, and louder bridge pickup (DP159FW), giving you a real push in gain and edge as you move toward the bridge instead of two pickups that just sound like variations on the same voice.
- Both pickups use DiMarzio’s patented dual-resonance design, which pulls out more harmonic overtones than a standard humbucker, so the top end stays articulate even under heavy gain.
- Ceramic magnets and 4-conductor wiring on both units, giving you full coil-split/series-parallel flexibility if your wiring setup supports it.
- Neck (DP158FW): 294mV output, 13.04 Kohm DC resistance.
- Bridge (DP159FW): 404mV output, 13.84 Kohm DC resistance.
These were built for the stage first — high headroom, aggressive attack, and enough presence to stay cohesive through a cranked amp — but that same clarity translates surprisingly well in the studio, cutting through dense mixes without turning to mush. Just know these aren’t beginner-friendly pickups: they reward players with real technique and an amp that can keep up. Finished in white to match F-spaced routes.
This set ships with a free pack of D’Addario EXL117 Medium Top/Extra-Heavy Bottom strings, a solid pairing if you’re chasing that same Vai-style low-end thump with singing lead tone up top.
