P90s have always been a tradeoff. You get that thick, mid-heavy snarl, the creamy note bloom, and a rawness single coils just can’t touch — but you also get the 60-cycle hum that comes with any true single-coil design. DiMarzio built the Fantom to break that tradeoff entirely.

Most “quiet P90” attempts either stack coils and lose the top end, or split the coils and lose the output — either way, you end up with something that looks like a P90 but doesn’t sound like one. DiMarzio took a different approach here, engineering four coils working together inside a standard soapbar shell so the pickup keeps its personality at any gain level. Push your amp into overdrive and the Fantom stays articulate instead of dissolving into buzz.
