Description
Think of the HS-4 as the HS-3’s more nuanced sibling. Same single-coil-sized humbucker format, same Alnico 5 punch, but with a vintage-correct 50s magnet stagger that reshapes how the strings balance against each other. The result is a subtly different personality: a touch more clarity and string definition, especially noticeable on the plain strings as you move up the neck. Neck and middle positions in particular pick up a unique character for both chord work and single-note runs, all while staying completely dead quiet — no 60-cycle hum to fight.
Drop it into a high-gain rig and it holds up fine, but the HS-4 really shows its range in the classic combo of overdrive pedal into a Marshall-style amp. Stomp on the pedal and you get boosted sustain and grind; kick it off and the tone cleans up dramatically. Across all three pickup positions, expect a slightly warmer take on the familiar Strat voice compared to standard single-coils.
