Description
This is a set built around contrast that actually works together. The PAF Pro (DP151, black) handles neck duties with an open, transparent PAF-style voice that was designed to cut through high-gain rigs and rack processing without turning to mud. Expect snappy, chunky low notes, a distinctive mid-range spike that gives off a subtle “aw” vowel character, and treble that stays present without going brittle. It’s equally happy in the bridge if you don’t need scorched-earth output — flexible enough to pair with almost anything.
In the bridge sits the Tone Zone (DP155FBK, F-spaced), DiMarzio’s answer to thin, buzzy high-output pickups. It’s genuinely hot, but with a wider dynamic window than most — dig in and it roars, back off and it cleans up nicely. Bass and low-mid response is huge, single notes carry real depth, and the patented dual-resonance coils pull out more overtones than you’d expect from a pickup this fat-sounding. Split it for a solid single-coil-style tone when you want a break from the wall of humbucker.
Together, the PAF Pro’s clarity balances the Tone Zone’s punch — a combination that holds its shape whether you’re playing clean or slamming a high-gain amp.
