This set pairs two of DiMarzio’s most dependable humbuckers, built to complement rather than compete with each other. The PAF Pro (DP151, neck) was designed in the mid-80s as high-gain rigs and rack processing started taking over stages, and pickups needed enough clarity to survive being pushed through effects chains. It keeps that open, vintage PAF character but sharpens the mids with a subtle vowel-like bump — think a wah stuck halfway — while low strings stay snappy instead of mushy. It’s flexible enough to work in the bridge too, especially if you’re not chasing maximum output.
In the bridge sits the Tone Zone (DP155FBK, F-spaced), DiMarzio’s answer to bridge pickups that turn everything into buzzing high-end mush. It’s a genuinely hot pickup, but with real touch sensitivity — dig in and it roars, back off and it cleans up nicely. Bass and low-mid content is substantial, giving chords real size and single notes real depth. The patented dual-resonance coil design keeps overtones present despite the output, and splitting the coils gets you a usable single-coil tone as a bonus.
Together they’re a well-matched neck/bridge pair, especially for players who want gain-friendly definition without sacrificing low-end weight.
