Description
This set pairs two of DiMarzio’s most versatile humbuckers into a combo that covers a lot of tonal ground without ever feeling one-dimensional. Both pickups wear black covers and come 4-conductor wired, so coil-splitting and phase tricks are on the table if your wiring supports it.
PAF Pro (DP151) — Neck
Designed back in 1986 as amps and rack gear got gainier, the PAF Pro keeps an open, PAF-ish character but with enough clarity to cut through heavy processing instead of dissolving into it. Alnico 5 magnet, 8.4k DC resistance, 300mV output. Lows have snap and chunk, there’s a midrange bump that gives a slight cocked-wah vowel, and the top end stays articulate without turning brittle. It’s flexible enough to work in any position — great as a neck pickup, and a solid bridge choice too when you don’t need maximum output. Pairs well with hotter bridge pickups like a Norton or X2N, or sits nicely alongside single-coils since it won’t overpower them.
Tone Zone (DP155) — Bridge
If you’ve ever had a bridge pickup turn thin and buzzy under gain, the Tone Zone is built to fix that. It’s a genuinely hot pickup — Alnico 5, 375mV output, 17.31k DC resistance — but with real dynamic range: dig in and it roars, back off and it cleans up. Bass and low-mids are reinforced for a bigger overall sound, single notes carry real depth, and chords sound massive. Patented dual-resonance coils keep the overtone content alive despite the fat output, and split-coil mode gives a usable single-coil voice too. Works well alongside an Air Norton, PAF Joe, or the PAF Pro included here.
