This DiMarzio DP151BK/DP155BK set pairs two pickups built for players who want vintage PAF attitude with modern clarity. The PAF Pro (DP151) lives in the neck position, though it’s flexible enough for bridge duty when you don’t need extreme output. Designed back in 1986 as high-gain rigs were taking over, it delivers a transparent, open tone that stays articulate under heavy processing rather than dissolving into mud. Expect snappy low end, a subtle mid-range “aw” vocal quality, and treble that stays present without turning brittle. It’s an especially strong building-block pickup—pair it with a hotter bridge humbucker (like the Tone Zone here) for a well-balanced two-pickup rig, or run it against single-coils since it won’t overpower them.
Anchoring the bridge, the Tone Zone (DP155) solves the classic “angry mosquito” bridge-pickup problem. It’s genuinely high-output, but with real dynamic range—dig in for power, back off for cleaner, quieter tones. Massive bass and low-mid response give chords serious weight and single notes real depth, while DiMarzio’s patented dual-resonance coils pull out more overtones than you’d expect from a pickup this fat.
