Description
Joe Satriani doesn’t settle for pickups that just sound loud — he wants tone that breathes with his playing, and that’s exactly what DiMarzio built into the Satchur8™ (DP273F). At its core is an Alnico 8 magnet, chosen for its high output and buttery mid-range, paired with deep bass and a warm, vocal quality on lead lines. It’s the kind of pickup that roars when you dig in and quiets down gracefully as you back off the pick attack.
Alnico 8 magnets have a reputation for going nasal and congested if not handled right — all growl, no clarity. DiMarzio tuned the Satchur8’s coils specifically to sidestep that trap, giving it a broad, punchy attack instead of a clogged one. The result is smooth but never dull: notes carry real weight and definition, harmonics bloom, and the overall voice stays articulate even under heavy gain. Satriani himself has called it the richest, most complete-sounding pickup he’s used.
This is a 4-conductor humbucker, so you’ve got full flexibility for coil-splitting and series/parallel wiring setups if your guitar’s switching supports it. Built for F-spaced bridge routes only.
