Description
The PJ configuration became a bass staple for good reason — split P up front, single-coil-voiced J at the bridge, blending thump and growl in one instrument. DiMarzio’s Sixties PJ set (DP306N, nickel covers) takes that classic pairing and rebuilds it as fully humbucking, so you get the vintage flavor without the 60-cycle baggage that plagued the originals.
Both pickups use potted coils wired with foil-shielded cable, quieting the signal by roughly 3dB compared to stock PJ sets — enough to notice the moment you plug in under stage lighting or a noisy pedalboard. Alnico 5 magnets are shaped to follow the curve of the metal covers, giving each string a more even pull and a response that feels immediate rather than scooped.
Comfort details carry over from DiMarzio’s Relentless pickups, co-developed with Billy Sheehan: rounded edges and a curved top that stay out of the way of your plucking hand. The circuit board mounting system also drops the height-adjustment screws below the pickguard line, so there’s nothing to snag on fingerstyle or slap technique.
Handmade in New York City and tested/matched as a set for consistent output between the two pickups.
