Everybody knows the Super Distortion as the humbucker that defined high-output rock tone for decades. The Super Distortion S takes that same ceramic-magnet punch and repackages it in a dual-blade, Strat bridge-size housing so you can drop it straight into a route built for single coils without routing a thing.
Because this pickup almost always lands in the angled bridge position of a 25 1/2″ scale guitar rather than sitting square like a standard humbucker, DiMarzio didn’t just shrink the original design and call it done. They recalculated the voicing around that slant: treble comes in smoother and less harsh, while the low end tightens up instead of turning to mud under high-gain drive.
Dual-blade Strat replacements have a reputation for weak coil-splitting since their magnetic field is naturally narrow, but DiMarzio worked around that limitation here. Flip it to single-coil mode via the 4-conductor wiring and you get a genuinely usable, full-bodied split tone instead of the thin, brittle sound these designs are usually stuck with. That same wiring also opens up parallel humbucking, and pairs naturally with the Pro Track, The Chopper, or Fast Track 1 if you’re building out a full pickguard.
