The DiMarzio VirtuAL 2 (DP408BK) takes the classic ’54-style single-coil recipe and refines it with a special grade of Alnico 2 magnets, aimed squarely at reducing the string pull that can choke sustain and intonation on vintage-voiced pickups. Less magnetic drag on the strings means the notes ring out longer and stay truer, without sacrificing the warm, smoky character that made this magnet type a strat staple in the first place.
Tonally, it’s got that breathy, slightly hazy quality at low volumes, then wakes up and fattens noticeably as you pick harder – dig in and the output swells with a bit of grit and body, giving you real dynamic range from your right hand rather than relying on pedals to do the work.
Designed for the middle position, it’s built to sit comfortably between neck and bridge pickups, blending cleanly for those glassy in-between sounds while still holding its own soloed. Finished in black.
