It’s a humbucking soapbar pickup loaded with ceramic magnets and steel pole pieces across its two coils, a combination that leans into warmth and low-mid punch rather than aggressive brightness. The result is a big, full-bodied signal with a top end that’s rolled off just enough to stay smooth without sounding dull.
Like all EMG actives, the 35CS runs through an onboard preamp, so you get plenty of usable output along with the low-noise, hum-free performance active electronics are known for. There’s no hiss or hum creeping in during quiet passages, just clean signal ready to be shaped by your amp or pedals.
This particular model uses EMG’s extended housing, measuring 3.5 inches (89mm), so double-check your bass’s routing or existing pickup dimensions before ordering. On the installation side, EMG includes their solderless wiring harness, which means you can swap this pickup in at home without pulling out a soldering iron.
