Description
The EMG 40P takes the classic P-bass split-coil formula and stretches it to fit five strings. Housed in EMG’s 40 Extended shell (4 inches / 102mm wide), it’s designed with the treble-side magnet positioned closer to the neck — the alignment favored by Spector and Yamaha basses. If your instrument follows the traditional Fender layout instead, with treble toward the bridge, ask about the “reverse” version of this pickup.
Under the hood, ceramic magnets pair with EMG’s short, squat coil design to produce a tone that’s equal parts vintage warmth and modern clarity. Expect crisp top-end definition, a solid midrange body, and low-end punch that stays tight rather than boomy. As an active pickup, the 40P also delivers the low-noise, high-headroom performance EMG is known for, along with the kind of dynamic response and natural presence that’s made this pickup a go-to for touring and session players alike.
Installation is straightforward thanks to EMG’s solderless wiring system, so you can swap this in at home without a soldering iron in sight. The box includes everything needed to wire it up:
- 1x 25k volume pot
- 1x 25k tone pot
- 1x battery bus
- 1x stereo output jack
- 1x pair of mounting screws
- 1x pickup cable
- 2x connect cables
- 1x output cable
- 1x battery cable
A solid upgrade for anyone chasing classic P-bass character with the extended range and low noise floor that modern 5-string playing demands.
