This particular version wears EMG’s mirror-polished stainless steel cover cap in a gold finish—not a plated look-alike. EMG couldn’t find a chrome-cap supplier who could guarantee consistent quality or tonal neutrality batch to batch, so their engineers built the real thing: a one-piece, mirror-polished stainless steel cap manufactured in-house. The gold finish is applied through a hardening process that penetrates the stainless steel substrate itself rather than sitting on top as a coating would, so it won’t wear through or flake off under stage abuse. Tonally, it performs identically to EMG’s standard molded covers.
