Description
The EMG-60 is the rhythm-position workhorse in the EMG active lineup, delivering that classic-thick balance guitarists chase: boosted mids, big low end, and highs that stay fat rather than brittle. Close-aperture coils wound around ceramic magnets give it a high-output character with surprisingly rich detail — single notes cut through with distinct clarity while chords bloom with buttery harmonic overtones. It’s equally at home cleaning up for bluesy rhythm work or getting shoved into hard-rocking crunch territory. Pair it with an EMG-81 in the bridge and you’ve got a genuinely versatile two-pickup setup that covers a huge tonal range.
This particular version wears a real mirror-polished stainless steel cover — not a plated one. EMG couldn’t source a chrome-finished cap they could control for consistency or domestic manufacturing, so instead of plating a base metal (the usual cheap route to a chrome look), their engineers developed a one-piece stainless steel cover finished to a genuine mirror shine. Tonally it performs identically to their standard molded covers, but you get the durability and consistency of solid stainless rather than a surface coating that can wear or vary batch to batch.
