The 66TW takes EMG’s active humbucker platform and gives it real split personality. Rather than just wiring down a humbucker for a thin approximation of single coil sound, EMG built the 66 as a true hybrid — combining ceramic and alnico magnets in one pickup. That pairing matters most when you pull the coil tap: instead of the usual dropout in output and clarity, you get a single coil tone that’s clear, articulate, and still has punch behind it.
In full humbucker mode you get the fat, controlled output EMG’s active circuitry is known for, and switching over gives you a genuinely usable alternative voice rather than a compromise setting you’ll never touch.
Wiring is handled through EMG’s solderless harness, which includes a push-pull pot for each pickup so the tap function is right at your fingertips, plus two standard tone controls that’ll adapt to most control cavity layouts.
