The EMG 85-7H takes the DNA of one of EMG’s original active humbuckers and stretches it across seven strings without losing an ounce of character. Close-aperture coils wound around Alnico V magnets give this pickup its signature blend: a thick, muscular low end that stays articulate under heavy gain, paired with a smooth, vocal top end that makes single-note runs feel effortless.
Most players reach for the 85-7H in the neck slot, chasing that fat, singing lead tone, but don’t underestimate it in the bridge—its warmth and touch sensitivity translate just as well there, especially if you want less ice-pick and more soul from your rhythm tone. It’s an active pickup, so expect consistent output and low noise regardless of your rig, and it plays nicely with nearly any other humbucker in EMG’s lineup if you’re building a mixed set.
Installation is handled through EMG’s solderless system, so you can swap it in without a soldering iron or a headache. The pickup ships in black and is also available in chrome, brushed chrome, gold, brushed gold, black chrome, and brushed black chrome finishes.
