Tucked into this Retro Active set is a plug-on external preamp that quietly cleans up the noise floor, giving you a low-impedance, virtually hum-free signal while keeping the pickup 100% passive in feel and response. You get the touch-sensitivity and amp interaction players love from a traditional design, minus the 60-cycle buzz that usually comes with it.
Open-coil bobbins wrapped around Alnico magnets do the tonal heavy lifting here, producing a voice that’s equally at home laying back into a slow blues shuffle or pushing forward into a saturated solo tone. It’s a pickup built for dynamics — dig in and it responds, back off and it cleans up naturally.
This particular configuration is finished in black, cut for long shaft (Les Paul-style) 19mm routing, and spaced for Floyd Rose bridges — so double-check your string spacing before ordering.

Installation is entirely solderless, and EMG includes everything needed to wire the set: two 25k volume pots, two 25k tone pots, a battery bus, stereo output jack, two-pickup in/out bus, mounting screws and springs, pickup cables, connect cables, an output cable, and a battery cable.
