EMG took the beloved J pickup formula and stretched it to cover the low B string without losing what makes a jazz bass sound like a jazz bass. The J5 set keeps that familiar sweeping, harmonically rich growl in the mids and treble, but EMG’s custom design widens the tonal window so you’re getting more than a vintage recreation – it’s a broader, more modern voice underneath the classic character.
Cap dimensions run 0.725″ x 3.97″ at the neck and 0.725″ x 4.1″ at the bridge, sized to sit correctly on a 5-string jazz layout.
Under the hood, EMG’s active circuitry keeps the resistance-to-inductance ratio very low, which is a big part of why the low end stays tight and defined instead of turning to mush on that fifth string. Pair that with the radiused ceramic bar magnets and you get punchy midrange definition plus a lively, extended top end – all while EMG’s active design keeps noise down and output high, so the signal reaching your amp or interface stays clean and strong.
