The 57 and 66 aren’t just two pickups thrown together in a box — they’re a purpose-built bridge/neck pairing that EMG voiced specifically to work as a team. The 57 holds down bridge duty with Alnico V magnets and steel pole pieces, a combination that leans into classic PAF territory while EMG’s active circuitry adds the headroom, punch, and note-to-note definition passive pickups can struggle to deliver, especially under gain.
Up front, the 66 takes a different approach: Alnico V magnets still supply the warm midrange and full, expansive low end, but ceramic pole pieces push the upper register into sharper focus, so chords and single notes cut through without turning brittle or thin. Together, the two pickups cover a wide tonal range without fighting each other.
Both units wear EMG’s signature brushed chrome caps, giving the set a clean, understated look that sits well on nearly any guitar regardless of finish or style.
Installation is where EMG’s MetalWorks line really earns its keep. The set uses EMG’s Quik-Connect solderless system, so swapping out your stock pickups doesn’t require a soldering iron or a steady hand with a wire stripper.
