Description
The P5 takes EMG’s legendary P-style split-coil design and widens it out for 5-string bass duty, so you get the same fat, punchy character in a package built for the extra low B.
Unlike passive split-coil pickups, the P5’s short, squat coils aren’t wired in series — they’re active, which means low resistance, high inductance, and roughly double the low-end output you’d get from a traditional passive P pickup. Ceramic magnets keep everything articulate on top, so the extra bottom end doesn’t turn to mud. The result is a pickup that pros keep coming back to: present, punchy in the midrange, powerful down low, and unusually well-defined for how much low end it’s putting out.
