Description
The EMG-SAV came out of an ongoing collaboration with Toto’s Steve Lukather, born originally from his “Luke” model built by Ernie Ball. This version got a few extra tweaks made just for Steve: heavier winding for a thicker, meatier tone, and pole pieces tucked out of sight beneath the covers so the pickups present a clean, uniform face on the guitar.
Under that cover cap sits the same preamp used in EMG’s SA pickup, now paired with flat Alnico 5 pole pieces. Because the poles sit flat rather than staggered, the coil sits closer to the strings overall, which bumps up output and gives the attack more bite. You still get the glassy, low-noise character EMG single coils are known for, just with more shove behind it.
This is a full drop-in system, not just a set of pickups. In the box:
- 3x EMG Quik-Connect cables for solderless hookup
- Prewired control set: volume, 2 tone controls
- 5-way selector switch with black and white knobs
- Output jack
- 9V battery clip
- Mounting screws and springs
Cover caps are available in black, white, or ivory, so you can match or contrast with your Strat’s finish.
