Description
This is the real Fender part: a 250K solid-shaft potentiometer with S-1 switching baked into the top of the shaft, so you push the knob to flip between tonal configurations instead of adding a separate switch to your control plate. Fender introduced this on American and American Deluxe guitars and basses back in 2003, and it’s remained a favorite mod for players who want more out of a single-pickup or simple pickup layout without routing new holes.
The S-1 offers four distinct switching stages, which means you can wire it as an SPST for a basic on/off tap, a DPDT for a classic single-coil tap on a humbucker, or go full 4PDT for tapping both coils on a dual-humbucker setup independently. It’s also a great companion to a Stratocaster 5-Position Super Switch (Fender p/n 0992251000) if you’re chasing in-between tones on a Strat-style build, but it drops just as easily into a Telecaster, P-Bass, or Jazz Bass control cavity for players hunting extra series/parallel or coil-split options.
Specs to know before you order:
- 250K resistance, solid shaft construction
- 3/8″ diameter shaft
- Set screw mounting knobs only — no split-shaft knobs will work here
- Switch knob (0052970000), cap (0059272000), and coupling sleeve are sold separately
If you’re already comfortable with a soldering iron and want to expand what your instrument can do without a total rewire, this pot is the part that makes it happen.
