Description
The Rare Earth Blend is Fishman’s answer to players who want the punch of a magnetic pickup but refuse to give up the air and body a good mic captures. This demo unit pairs a neodymium-powered humbucker with an onboard cardioid condenser mic, letting you blend the two signals right at the soundhole for a composite tone that’s far more convincing than either source alone.
The magnet structure keeps string-to-string balance tight and gives the top end a clarity that avoids the harsh, quacky edge some soundhole pickups suffer from. Bring the mic into the mix and you get the room-filling warmth and pick-attack detail that only air-capture can provide, without the feedback headaches of a standalone mic in a loud set.
Everything about the physical design is built for zero-hassle installation: no routing, no soldering, no permanent changes to your guitar. It mounts in the soundhole, the pre-wired output jack can be installed at the endpin, and the miniature batteries tuck neatly underneath the pickup itself. Thanks to a low-current preamp, you get roughly 150 hours of playing time per set before a change is needed.
