Kent Armstrong built this as a genuine single-coil P-90 dressed in humbucker-sized housing, so it drops straight into any humbucker cavity, no wood removed, no pickguard reshaped.
Tonally it delivers the classic P-90 character: fat midrange, punchy attack, and a slightly grittier edge than a standard single coil, but with more clarity and less mud than a humbucker. Players have compared its defined, full-bodied voice to a baby grand piano, every note ringing out distinctly rather than blurring together. It’s a versatile pickup that works across blues, rock, jazz, and everything in between, which is why Stromberg chose it as stock equipment in their Monterey model.
This version is wound and wired RW/RP (reverse wound/reverse polarity), meaning it’s designed to pair with a standard-wound pickup for hum-cancelling operation in the middle position, while still functioning as a true single coil on its own.
