Klein’s Epic Series 1962 set isn’t a guess-work reissue — it’s a reverse-engineered one. They sent original ’62 Alnico 5 magnets out for metallurgical chemical analysis, then worked directly with their magnet supplier to pour Alnico 5 to that exact composition. No one else in the pickup world is doing this level of forensic tone-chasing.
Same story with the wire: Klein pulled samples of 42ga Heavy Formvar from early Stratocasters and had it analyzed for exact resistance, inner and outer diameter, and even color, then had matching wire custom-built to those numbers rather than pulling from generic stock.
The result is a medium-output set with genuine low-end weight — full, chunky bottom without turning muddy — balanced against a mid range that has real bark in it. Play politely and it stays clean and articulate; dig in and it drives. Top end stays clear and never gets harsh, and the overall compression is exactly what you’d want from a vintage-correct build: warm and full when clean, pushing into grit when you want it.

Every magnet is stagger-matched and charged to the same flux strength as an original 1962 set, and each pickup is cast with Alnico 5 for authentic pull and sustain. Klein flash-pots the coils with a light wax dip, just enough to tame microphonic squeal without stripping away the natural, slightly open vintage character that makes these pickups worth chasing in the first place.
