Description
The Blue Sensor sits right in the sweet spot of the Lace lineup: single-coil in form, but voiced with the rounder, warmer character usually associated with vintage humbuckers, plus a slight output bump over the standard Sensor. It’s built on Lace’s Radiant Field Barrier design, which frames the coil and magnets in metal shielding to knock out 60-cycle hum while widening the pickup’s sensing field.
Where a typical pickup reads the string through just 4 to 12 magnetic points, the Sensor’s patented Micro Comb bobbins generate 36 separate sensing fields. That means more of the string’s actual vibration gets captured, string-to-string balance evens out, and the tonal window opens up considerably compared to a conventional single coil.
Because the design reads the string so efficiently, it gets away with weaker magnets than standard pickups — which sounds counterintuitive until you hear the result. Lower-energy magnets mean less magnetic drag on the string, so sustain stretches out further and pitch stays true for the life of the note instead of drifting as it decays.
- Single-coil pickup with warmer, ’50s-style humbucking tonal character
- Slightly increased output vs. standard Lace Sensor
- Radiant Field Barrier shielding for reduced 60-cycle hum
- 36 magnetic sensing fields via patented Micro Comb bobbins
- Black cover
Setup tip: Lace recommends setting string-to-pickup height at .170″ — roughly the thickness of two dimes and a nickel stacked together — measuring from the bottom of the string nearest the pickup.
