Description
The Burgundy is Lace’s go-to recommendation when you want bridge-position snarl with a bit more meat on the bone. It runs on the same Sensor architecture that put Lace on the map, but with a voicing tuned to feel fuller and slightly hotter than the standard-output models in the lineup.
Instead of a traditional bobbin-and-magnet setup, the Sensor uses Lace’s patented Micro Combs and a Radiant Field Barrier — metal slides that frame the coil’s inner core. That barrier does double duty: it shields the pickup from 60-cycle hum and stray interference, and it shapes a wider, more focused sensing field across the string. The result is 36 individual magnetic sensing zones reading the string, compared to the 4-12 zones you’d get from a conventional single coil.
Because the design reads more of the string with less noise creeping in, you get a signal-to-noise ratio that’s unusual for a single coil, plus a broader harmonic picture — more complexity in the tone, not just more volume. Lower-energy magnets are part of the trick: with less magnetic pull dragging on the strings, sustain stretches out further and pitch stays true for the length of the note, instead of drooping as string vibration gets choked off.

Setup tip: Lace recommends setting string-to-pickup height at .170″ — roughly the stack height of two dimes and a nickel — measuring from the underside of the string closest to the pickup.
