Description
The Purple Sensor sits in that sweet overwound zone of the Lace lineup, punchier than a Blue and a touch tamer than a Burgundy. Drop it in the bridge for a single coil with real push, or throw it in the neck when you want something closer to P-90 growl than glassy Strat chime.
Like every pickup in the Sensor family, it skips the traditional bobbin-and-magnet formula in favor of Lace’s Radiant Field Barrier design and patented Micro Combs. Instead of the usual 4-12 magnetic sensing points you’d get from a standard pickup, this thing reads the string across 36 separate fields — which is a big part of why it tracks so much more of the string’s actual vibration.
- Radiant Field Barrier shielding cuts 60-cycle hum without smothering the top end
- 36-point sensing field reads a wider swath of the string than conventional pickups
- Lower-energy magnets mean less string drag, so sustain lasts longer and pitch stays true
- Broader harmonic pickup for a more layered, complex voice
Because the magnetic pull is so much gentler than a typical pickup, strings aren’t fighting the field just to vibrate — the result is noticeably longer sustain and notes that hold pitch instead of sagging flat as they decay.
Setup tip: Lace recommends setting the gap at .170″ from string to pickup — roughly the stack height of two dimes and a nickel — measuring from the underside of the string closest to the pole for the truest reading.
