Description
Raw Vintage built its name rewinding real vintage Strat pickups, and the RV-5661 set in this bundle is the result of pulling those originals apart down to the wire. Staggered Alnico 5 pole pieces use the “Tall G” magnet profile (matching height on 3rd and 4th string), magnetized at a lower, controlled saturation to keep string balance even rather than harsh. Coils are wound with AWG-42 heavy formvar wire, hand-selected by measured diameter for consistency, landing at roughly 5.8-6.1kOhm DC resistance across the set.
The details go deeper than most reissue pickups bother with. Pole pieces are rough-ground on both faces rather than barrel-polished, edges are hand-chamfered exactly as Fender did it pre-1961, and the magnetic field runs North-up to match that era’s polarity – middle pickup included, left un-reversed on purpose so the magnetic field stays undisturbed rather than trading hum-cancelling for tone loss in half-tone positions.
After winding, coils get wax potted in a custom low-melt, low-viscosity blend mixed with extra black carbon powder for the 50’s character, potted just enough to leave some howl margin and let those complex, glassy overtones come through. Output wiring is AWG-22 cotton-braided cross wire, re-thickened and color-matched by hand since modern cotton coatings run thinner than the vintage originals.
