Description
Ask any Nashville session player what bugs them about a stock Tele neck pickup and you’ll hear the same complaint: the bottom strings turn to mud while the top strings stay needle-sharp. Seymour Duncan built the 5-2 Rhythm specifically to solve that mismatch, and it does so with a wonderfully simple bit of engineering rather than any tonal trickery.
Instead of a uniform magnet row, the 5-2 mixes Alnico 5 magnets under the low E, A, and D strings for tightness and punch, then switches to softer Alnico 2 magnets under the G, B, and high E for smoothness and sparkle without harshness. The result is a genuinely even-sounding pickup across all six strings — clear low end, articulate mids, and a top end that sings instead of stings.
Underneath the modern-sounding concept sits a thoroughly vintage-spec build: vulcanized fibre bobbins, formvar-coated wire, period-correct vintage magnet stagger, and waxed cloth hookup wire, all wrapped in a chrome-plated brass cover. Output stays in traditional single-coil territory, so it responds beautifully to amp breakup and pedal dirt without ever feeling compressed or hot.
Well suited to:
- Traditional and modern country
- Country pop
- Blues
- Classic rock
If your Tele’s neck pickup has always felt a little lopsided, the 5-2 Rhythm brings it into balance while keeping every ounce of that vintage single-coil character.
