Description
Back in 1978, Seymour Duncan was the guy players called when they needed something a stock pickup couldn’t deliver. The request that started this one: take a PAF, rewind it hotter, and make it respond better to harmonics – both the kind you coax out naturally and the kind you tap into existence. What came out the other side became the ’78 Model.
Under the cover sits an Alnico 2 magnet, wound to the same hot specification as that original custom rewind. That pairing of magnet and output is what gives this bridge humbucker its character – a warm, saturated crunch on rhythm parts that doesn’t turn muddy, and lead tones that bite without losing definition. Tapped harmonics and pinch harmonics ring out clearly instead of getting buried, which is exactly what the original build was chasing.
It’s suited to players who want their rhythm tone thick and rocking but still articulate enough to survive whammy bar dives and pick-hand tapping without falling apart. If your playing leans on expressive lead work as much as riffing, the ’78 Model gives you the harmonic content to work with.
