Description
The AHB-1B Phase 2 brings Seymour Duncan’s Blackouts active platform to 7-string territory, giving down-tuned riffers the same aggressive, controlled tone that made the 6-string Blackouts a staple in modern metal, thrash, punk, and garage rock rigs.
Under the hood, this pickup runs on 9-volt active circuitry with balanced inputs and a differential preamp, which keeps hum and noise in check while preserving dynamics that passive pickups often flatten out. Compared to typical active pickups, the Blackouts voicing avoids the overly scooped mid-range and squashed compression that can make heavy riffs feel lifeless — instead you get a tighter low end for extended-range chugging and pick attack that actually cuts through a dense mix.
This is a complete, ready-to-install package rather than just a bare pickup. It ships with:
- 25K pots
- Stereo output jack
- Battery clip
- Mounting hardware
Because it’s designed as a drop-in replacement for the EMG 707 humbucker, swapping into most 7-string guitars is straightforward without routing or rewiring headaches. If you want to push the aggression further, Seymour Duncan pairs this well with their SFX-04 Twin Tube Mayhem pedal for added grind.
Dino Cazares of Divine Heresy has relied on the Blackouts platform, which says plenty about its credentials in the extended-range, high-gain world.
