Description
Slipknot’s Mick Thomson didn’t want a stock Blackouts set — he wanted something built specifically for the punishing, detuned riffage that defines his playing. The AHB-3S is the result: an active humbucker pair with custom preamp voicing aimed squarely at players living in drop tunings who still need clarity and bite, not mush.
The neck model (EMTY) is voiced for clean tones that stay glassy and defined rather than soft, with an edge that keeps chords from turning to mud. Push the gain and the low and high end hold their shape while the midrange leans forward, so sustained notes stay articulate even in dense passages — you’re not losing single-note definition to the crunch.
The bridge model (EMTY) keeps the output and punch you’d expect from Blackouts, but the custom-tuned preamp tightens up the low-end considerably. That translates to a more percussive, snappier feel under palm-muted chugging, whether you’re in standard or several steps below it. Mids are dialed in just enough to keep riffs readable, and a boosted treble response gives lead lines real attack.
- Custom-voiced active preamp for tightened low-end and enhanced treble
- Includes pots, hardware, quick-connector cables, capacitor (active-spec value), output jack, battery clip, and wire for a full install
- Drop-in swap if your guitar already runs active pickups with quick-connector wiring
Built for riffs that need to stay tight no matter how far down you tune.
