Description
Long before anyone thought to bolt one onto a Tele, this pickup lived inside 1950s Fender lap steels. Players eventually discovered its raw, honking character made a killer lead pickup, and pulled countless originals out of old steels to graft into their guitars. Seymour Duncan’s Antiquity version captures that same voice and vintage build without you needing to hunt down a donor lap steel.
Each bobbin is fabricated and hand-wound using the same techniques and materials the originals relied on, then wrapped in waxed string for coil protection just like the vintage units. The rectangular vulcanized bottom plate is faithful to the original mounting style, secured into the body with two wood screws rather than a modern pickup ring. Hookup wire is authentic push-back cloth braid, keeping the whole package true to its early Fender roots inside and out.
This is a pickup for players chasing genuine 1950s lap steel tone in a lead position – think biting, midrange-forward twang with an unmistakable vintage grit that modern single coils rarely replicate. If you’re restoring a vintage-spec Tele or building something with real period character, this is the piece that gets you there.
